Plot Summary:
“Assassinating Bang”, known in Chinese as Ci Bang (刺蚌), is a traditional Peking Opera story set in the turbulent Warring States period of ancient China. The play depicts a bold and strategic assassination attempt, combining martial artistry, suspense, and emotional depth.

The plot revolves around a state trying to eliminate a powerful enemy general named Bang (蚌), who has become a serious threat. A skilled warrior or assassin (depending on the version, often a female warrior or spy) is sent on a dangerous mission to approach General Bang under disguise, gain his trust, and eliminate him at a crucial moment.

The opera is notable for its combination of martial arts choreography, stealth movements, and tense psychological interplay between the characters. It often features beautifully stylized combat, strategic deception, and a dramatic confrontation scene.

“Ci Bang” emphasizes the themes of loyalty, sacrifice, and courage, and is a showcase for performers with strong physical skills, especially in the wusheng (martial male) and wudan (martial female) roles. The stylized fight scene and subtle acting make it a favorite in martial opera showcases.
